Requirements to Start a Local Chapter of The Society

The establishment of a Local Chapter is essential to expanding The Society of Our Sacred Honor’s mission of patriotism, unity, honor, and civic engagement. The process is straightforward, with clear expectations to ensure alignment with SOSH’s values and operational standards

1. Founding Members

  • Minimum Membership: At least five active Members (Patriots) are required to start a Chapter.
  • Commitment: Founding Members must agree to uphold the Sacred Principles of Liberty, Patriotism, Camaraderie/Unity, and Honor, and commit to fostering the goals of SOSH.
  • Leadership Roles: Founding Members must nominate and elect at least the following initial officers:
    • Chair: Leads the Chapter and ensures activities align with SOSH’s mission.
    • Vice Chair: Supports the Chair and steps in when necessary.
    • Secretary: Maintains records, meeting minutes, and communication.
    • Treasurer: Manages Chapter finances transparently.

2. Approval Process

  • Application Submission: Prospective Chapters must submit a formal Chartering Application to the SOSH State or Grand Chapter. This application includes:
    • Prospective New Chapter Questionnaire (Download Below)
    • A list of Founding Members and their contact information.
    • Proposed leadership structure (officer positions and their roles).
    • A preliminary plan for the Chapter’s first year, including recruitment strategies, events, and initiatives.
  • Review and Approval: The application will be reviewed by the State or Grand Chapter. If approved, the Chapter receives an official charter, allowing it to operate under the SOSH umbrella.

3. Alignment with SOSH’s Mission

  • Core Values: The Chapter must demonstrate a clear commitment to SOSH’s Sacred Principles and AmeriCare Initiatives: America Remember, America Rethink, and America Renew.
  • Educational Goals: Chapters are expected to promote civic education, community service, and leadership development among their Members.

4. Financial Responsibilities

  • Dues Collection: It is the vigorous desire and intent that The Society will be free to all Members and Patriots. If this is not possible, Chapters are responsible for collecting Member dues as determined by the Grand Chapter and remitting a portion to the State and Grand Chapters.
  • Fundraising: Chapters are encouraged to engage in local fundraising efforts to support their operations, events, and activities.
  • Transparency: Financial records must be maintained by the Treasurer and reported to the State Chapter regularly.

5. Operational Structure

  • Adoption of SOSH Documents: Chapters must adopt the model Constitution and Bylaws provided by the Grand Chapter, with any amendments approved by the State or Grand Chapter.
  • Committee Structure: Chapters must establish operational and initiative-based committees, including:
    • America Remember Committee (led by the Historian).
    • America Rethink Committee (led by the Thinker).
    • America Renew Committee (led by the Envisioner).
    • Additional committees based on operational needs, such as Membership, Finance, and Events.

6. Training and Resources

  • Orientation: All Founding Members and officers must complete the SOSH New Member Orientation Program.
  • Leadership Development: Officers are required to participate in SOSH’s training programs for leadership and operational success.
  • Resource Access: Chapters will have access to the SOSH Resource Library, including templates for event planning, fundraising, and reporting.

7. Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Quarterly Reporting: Chapters must submit quarterly activity and financial reports to their State Chapter.
  • Participation: Chapters are expected to actively engage in State and National SOSH events and initiatives.
  • Growth: Chapters must prioritize recruitment to ensure sustainable growth and greater community impact.

8. Chartering Ceremony

  • Upon approval, a Chartering Ceremony will be held to recognize the establishment of the new Chapter. This event is an opportunity to celebrate the Chapter’s mission and introduce it to the local community.
